Weight management program to return to Center for Healthy Living's 2017 offerings

The Center for Healthy Living on Purdue's West Lafayette campus again brings weight management education and support to campus. The center will offer recurring six-week weight management programs throughout 2017; the first opportunity to participate begins Feb. 16. Benefits-eligible employees and spouses/adult dependents covered on a Purdue health plan who are in the process of losing weight or who are seeking motivation, guidance and tools to begin their weight loss journey are encouraged to attend.

Cheryl Laszynski, registered nurse, certified health and wellness coach at the Center for Healthy Living, will lead this comprehensive education program. Laszynski will help individuals identify issues that contribute to being overweight, assist in developing goals and strategies for successful weight loss and maintenance and provide support and guidance to each participant throughout the program. Presentations from special guests in the areas of nutritional counseling and physical activity, as well as an offer for 10 free visits over a 30-day period at Purdue's recreational sports center for those without a prior membership also are included.

"For many people, weight management and/or weight loss are part of their daily lives," Laszynski says. "All things related to weight management and weight loss can be frustrating, especially when someone doesn't have a solid support system within reach. At the center and through this program, that's what we try and provide for our clients -- a solid, encouraging support system so they know they are not alone in their journey to a healthier way of life. As a nurse and wellness coach with experience in this area, I am in a position to help guide them and show them that reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is possible. All of the providers, health coaches, dietitian and pharmacist at the Center for Healthy Living are able to provide ongoing support once the program ends as well.

"It is possible to reach and maintain a healthy weight," Laszynski adds. "We are here to help you in your journey to a healthier you." Rebecca Stevenson -- and her success -- is a great example of how the center can play a positive role in helping achieve a healthy weight and lifestyle.

The first session begins Feb. 16 and meets weekly from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Thursdays through March 30 in Lilly Hall, Room 3102. Class will not meet the week of spring break.
