Events to celebrate faculty, teaching excellence by grad students

Faculty and graduate teaching assistants will be recognized at two celebratory events in April.

On Monday (April 25), the Faculty Awards Convocation will celebrate a range of faculty honors given since last year's event, including national and international awards; University, college and school awards; and Fellow awards. The event, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Purdue Memorial Union's North and South Ballrooms, is being coordinated by Alyssa Panitch, vice provost for faculty affairs, and Peter Hollenbeck, associate vice provost for faculty affairs.

On Tuesday (April 26), Purdue Teaching Academy and Purdue Graduate School will present graduate student teaching awards at the 18th annual Celebration of Graduate Student Teaching Excellence. The program and awards ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. at Ross-Ade Stadium's Shively Club. The event is being organized by Karen Neubauer, assistant director of special projects in the Center for Instructional Excellence.

Both events are invitation-only.

Faculty awards and honors to be presented at the Faculty Awards Convocation include:

* Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Awards.
* Exceptional Early Career teaching awards.
* Excellence in Distance Learning awards.
* Teaching for Tomorrow awards.
* Class of 1922 Helping Students Learn Award.
* The Arden L. Bement, Clifford Kinley Trust, Herbert Newby McCoy, Sigma Xi research awards.
* Research and Scholarship Distinction award.
* Committee on Institutional Cooperation's Academic Leadership Program fellows.
* Morrill Awards.
* University Faculty Scholars and Showalter Faculty Scholars.
* Fellowships for Study in a Second Discipline.
* Provost Fellows.
* Colleges' teaching, research, leadership and engagement awards.

The following awards will be presented at the Celebration of Graduate Student Teaching Excellence:

* Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award, the highest recognition given to teaching assistants on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus.
* The Teaching Academy’s Graduate Instructional Development Certificates (GIDC), Graduate Teaching Certificates (GTC), and Advanced Graduate Teaching Certificates (AGTC).
* Teaching Academy Graduate Teaching awards (formerly the CETA -- Committee for the Education of Teaching Assistants -- awards), for which departments nominate their top teaching assistants.

A full list of faculty and graduate student recognitions and honorees will be published following the events.

Awards to outstanding students will be presented during their respective commencement ceremonies.
