A Purdue alumna with nationwide respect as an executive coach and team trainer will return March 1 to give the 2016 presentation in the Richard A. Hadley APSAC Professional Development Series.

Michelle Gladieux, who tailors her instruction to client needs, will lead a workshop on "Productivity and Presence: Pursuing Work-Life Balance." She summarizes the program this way: "Participants whether attending in person or via streaming will look at how they currently use time and cope with change, then choose a behavior change to experiment with in 2016 to benefit self and others. We'll record possible goals throughout the seminar and choose the most meaningful to each of us as the event concludes."

The presentation will be at 2-4 p.m. in Stewart Center, Rooms 302-306. Registrations for in-person attendance already have filled the rooms and led to the creation of a waiting list. However, participants can participate via live stream by signing in here. Participants will receive an email on the day of the event providing the link to join the live stream. To check on registration options, visit here. Details for participation through streaming will be forthcoming. APSAC also plans to archive the workshop on Purdue's YouTube site. The Hadley event is open to all Purdue staff with permission of supervisor.

Gladieux earned two degrees at Purdue's West Lafayette campus -- a bachelor's degree in industrial/organizational psychology and a Master of Science in Industrial Technology. She says, "I'm an exceedingly proud Boilermaker and include that fact in every bio I submit to conferences around the country."

After graduation, she spent several years as a corporate human resources and training director while teaching MBA and undergraduate courses in related subjects. People began inviting her to give custom seminars and keynote addresses. "I'm doing what I was born to do. I love it."

What she does involves conference speaking, executive coaching and leading training of her own creation in over a dozen communication and leadership topics. She teaches at corporations, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and for government teams. She writes a Q&A column called Coach's Corner that appears in periodicals and online at www.facebook.com/GladieuxConsulting. APSAC's Professional Development Committee, which organizes the Hadley series, chose the March 1 topic.

Gladieux says, "Our two hours together will provide participants with a fresh, fun, fast-paced look at the way humans use, forget to use and can improve communication to keep stress at bay and help change efforts succeed. We'll review current research from the field of organizational psychology. All participants receive a handbook filled with exercises to lead them to personally meaningful goals."

Gladieux believes it's important to share personal experiences as she continues to apply what she learns to her own life.

"I work on my use of time and communication style continuously and share my ups and downs as a life-long learner with every audience," she says. "The more keenly aware we are of our strengths and related vulnerabilities, the better we understand what to work on to help ourselves, our teams and our employers."

She has one initial piece of advice for participants: Bring a pen and an open mind.
