RE:       2020-21 Annual Staff Performance Management and Merit Process

As the 2020-2021 performance management and merit process continues, employees and managers should review and update goal progress through March 1.

The annual performance evaluation records an employee’s fulfillment of key goals and university-wide competencies. Each staff member will complete their performance self-assessment between March 1 and March 12, and supervisors will evaluate the performance of their direct reports from March 15 to April 2.

During a time when many of our employees are working a remote or hybrid schedule, supervisors must make a point to communicate regularly to celebrate successes, encourage performance improvement and understand the specific development needs of each staff member. This year’s annual performance evaluation conversation is an ideal time for supervisors to make sure they understand what’s working well or what might need to change regarding their employees’ work location status.

Many of our colleagues have thrived on the flexibility and protection provided by remote work; for others, a return to campus – either based on operational needs or personal preference – might be in order. This is the time to engage them in a discussion around the best working situation on a long-term basis.

Visit the performance management website to view the complete timeline, along with helpful resources for supervisors and employees.

Your HR business partner will provide regular performance management updates to help your unit attain a 100 percent annual review completion rate. You can access your unit's 2020-21 annual evaluation reports via the SuccessFactors home page.

Those directly involved in the merit process (such as individuals assigned as compensation managers, directors of financial affairs or financial managers) will receive additional communications regarding the training resources available and the performance and merit timeline.  The official merit increase policy will be distributed along with budget materials by early April.

Please also note that promotion review templates for July 1 promotions must be submitted to Human Resources by March 31. More information on promotion criteria is available at https://www.purdue.edu/hr/mngcareer/compguidelines/stproinc.php.

Thank you for your continued support of Purdue’s performance management and merit processes.
