Shared Resources

Computer lab

The department maintains a computer lab for instructional use in HAMP 4247. The lab contains 20 Linux computers and 20 Windows computers. Each workstation has one of each, sharing a common keyboard, mouse, and monitor. The instructor workstation also has an extra cable to allow laptop hookup for projection.

The Linux computers use the EAS Linux setup found in research labs across the department. Software requests for the lab should be submitted at least two weeks before the software is needed, to provide time for the software to be loaded and tested.

File server

The department maintains a file server (hypocenter.eas.purdue.edu) for the storage of files pertaining to departmental operations. Faculty and staff received 10GB of personally-assigned space. Graduate students receive 2GB of personally-assigned space upon requests. Group shared space is available for purchase. All data stored on hypocenter is backed up nightly. For more information visit the hypocenter FAQ or e-mail sciencehelp@purdue.edu.

Poster Printer

There is a large format poster printer located in HAMP 4257. Access to the poster printer in only available from the machine next to the printer. This machine has Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, and Publisher loaded. There are two types of paper available (plain and glossy) available in two sizes (36" and 42" wide). The poster printer can become very busy before major conferences. There is a sign-up sheet located on the door of HAMP 4257 during the high-volume times.

Video conferencing

Purdue has a license agreement with WebEx which allows users to use WebEx Conferencing (formerly known as "Adobe Connect") to conduct video conferences. WebEx Conferencing is available at: Log in to WebEx

If you have your own microphone and web cam, you can use that with WebEx. It may also be used from most smartphones by downloading the WebEx app. If not, you can check out the department's video conferencing cart, which has a computer, camera, and microphone. To reserve the cart, send an e-mail to sciencehelp@purdue.edu.
