Welcome to Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering

Hand in Hand

RCHE partners with a variety of healthcare organizations. Some provide "living laboratories" while others are important to helping disseminate research findings for broader application.

Transforming Healthcare

RCHE applies the principles of engineering, science, and management research to provide research-based solutions for transforming the healthcare system.

Two Seed Grant Opportunities Now Open

RCHE announces the implementation RFP in addition to the existing research RFP. Both are now open for letters of intent.

Growing new ideas

treeRCHE's seed grant program helps Purdue researchers grow new research lines. This year, RCHE is introducing a second seed grant program to provide funding for faculty and researchers to test research results in a clinical or applicable real-world setting. Faculty and researchers from all Purdue campuses are eligible to submit proposals. Researchers are expected to show the impact of the research at the end of the funding.

Featured Research Initiatives

Patient / System Research
This research team is working to determine the impact of health literacy on self-care ability and medication administration among heart failure patients.
Learn More
Care Services Research
This research will develop reports of measures of pharmacy quality performance and medication safety, including prescription drug utilization reports to compare patterns across pharmacies.
Learn More
Care Outcomes Research
This research is directed toward informing payers of community-based long-term care about current methods of determining which long-term care services and how much of each of these services should be allocated to a recipient.

System Support Research
The primary long-term objective of this research is increased efficiency in the management of the supply chains used to distribute healthcare products, specifically medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and (orthotic and cardiovascular) devices.

What is healthcare engineering?

It's the science of healthcare delivery. Engineers look at problems or systems and design new or improved ways of making those systems work — like finding better ways to make a car more fuel efficient, for example. In healthcare engineering, the system is the healthcare system and includes all facets, from medication safety to patient and family engagement. At the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering, our faculty draw on engineering, communications, management, and more, but all with the end result of finding ways to improve the healthcare system.
