Purdue’s new faculty appointments reach an all-time high, driven by record enrollment, investment

This semester’s class of new Purdue faculty is now in the history books. For Fall 2022, 213 faculty are starting their Boilermaker careers — the most ever in a single year. Of that number, 84 faculty are in newly funded appointments, fueled by Purdue’s enrollment growth, an Equity Task Force cluster hire program and other initiatives. From growing up immersed in volleyball with his dad and brothers to leading teams at the high school and collegiate levels, Shondell shares more about his passion for the sport. The sands of Mars are green as well as red, rover Perseverance discovers

Mars isn’t just covered with red rocks – it also features green sand. In Jezero Crater, the rover Perseverance is helping planetary geologists study Mars. In one area what they thought were sedimentary rocks turned out to be igneous or volcanic in nature. Specifically, they are composed of grains of olivine, the muddier less-gemlike version of peridot that tints so many of Hawaii’s beaches dark green.

Hitze aims to cultivate community as 2022-23 CSSAC chair

After graduating from Purdue in the early ’90s, Laurie Hitze knew she would eventually return to campus. Hitze now works as a schedule deputy in the Department of Psychological Sciences and is serving as the 2022-23 chair of the Campus Support Staff Advisory Committee.
