BCC’s Thomas to present Lovell Leadership event from MaPSAC

Renee Thomas, director of Purdue’s Black Cultural Center, will provide leadership insights Oct. 21 in the Lovell Leadership Series, presented by the Management and Professional Staff Advisory Committee (MaPSAC). The event will be at noon-1 p.m. via Zoom.

Life on campus looks different this year, but a new initiative for campus activities aims to boost the residential student experience while keeping the campus community safe. Purdue University’s Office of Student Life is rolling out ReEntry Purdue Atmosphere, a plan to provide safe spaces for students to carry out campus activities with new and existing spaces on campus – all while abiding by the guidelines spelled out in the Protect Purdue Plan.

Can smartwatches be used to detect early signs of COVID-19?

Certain changes in a person’s heart and breathing rates could precede symptoms of COVID-19, an increasing number of studies suggests. Purdue researchers have begun a study that would help determine if continuously collected biometric smartwatch data could be used to reliably and accurately detect these signs early, which could indicate that a potentially asymptomatic user should get tested for COVID-19.

Staff in Purdue’s Disability Resource Center (DRC) are using social media to raise awareness about service dogs, while also celebrating the various jobs service dogs perform. To help celebrate National Service Dog Month, which took place in September, three DRC access consultants also participated in a Q&A to address common questions and misconceptions about their experience with service dogs.
