Purdue generates more than a half billion dollars in
research funding this year

Purdue University produced more than a half billion dollars in research funding for fiscal year 2019, easily making it another record year. The $520.6 million generated in 2019 shatters last year’s record of $454.5 million, marking the fifth consecutive year the university has established record funding.

Do you have a picture with Purdue’s Neil Armstrong statue? Purdue wants to see it

It’s become routine during commencement weekends for students, families and friends to line up on Stadium Avenue to snap photos with the Neil Armstrong statue. Same on football game days, Spring Fest or any visit to campus. You’ve probably seen TV broadcasts of Purdue athletic events break for commercial with a well-lit shot of the statue framed by moonlight.


Engineering will kick off Purdue’s Apollo 11 celebration with a special space announcement

The College of Engineering is kicking off Purdue’s Apollo 11 celebration with a special space announcement on Thursday (July 18). The announcement, which is open to the public, is at 1 p.m. in Neil Armstrong Hall’s Kurz Atrium. The event will kick off Purdue’s Apollo 11 events taking place Thursday-Saturday (July 18-20) to commemorate when Purdue alumnus Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon July 20, 1969.

New anticancer agents have potential to better control tumor growth

A gene called MYC has become one of the hottest targets for cancer researchers around the world. MYC is known to drive tumor growth in nearly all cancer types, but successfully targeting the gene has proven to be a challenge -- one that has been baffling researchers for more than three decades. Now, researchers at Purdue have discovered a novel set of MYC promoter G-quadruplex stabilizers that have demonstrated anticancer activity in human cancer cell cultures.

Study shows importance of avoiding noise-induced hearing loss

Hearing loss is so common in today's society, especially in older individuals, that many people question the use of doing anything to protect their hearing from noise and loud sounds. But it turns out the source of hearing loss may have a large impact on a person’s ability to understand speech and enjoy music. That’s the result of a new study from researchers at Purdue and the University of Rochester that was recently published in The Journal of Neuroscience.
