Imagine a State Street that is as inviting to pedestrians and bicyclists as it is to vehicles -- in short, imagine a corridor that serves as the heart of the West Lafayette campus. Purdue, the Purdue Research Foundation and the City of West Lafayette are working on a plan to revitalize State Street into just that. Drastic changes are still a long way off, but planners are seeking input from the community about how to make this dream a reality. Public meetings are set for Feb. 12.
Faculty and staff news
As the investigation into the fatal shooting of a Purdue student continued, the campus community prepared for the resumption of classes today (Jan. 23).
Purdue instructors and graduate students can enhance their teaching skills, exchange ideas with colleagues, and get practical hints on their craft from some of the campus's award-winning professors in seminars offered by the Center for Instructional Excellence. Staff members also will find the information and insight into classroom instruction helpful.
The Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance is announcing the availability of University-wide Equal Access, Equal Opportunity training sessions. Faculty, staff and graduate students are encouraged to participate in the training sessions in an effort to ensure that the campus environment is one free of discrimination and harassment.
Participants in the Center for Healthy Living's new weight management program will have the opportunity to work with a variety of health care experts as they explore techniques to lose weight or keep from gaining weight.
As part of an effort to determine what types of SharePoint materials and training are in highest demand, representatives from the SharePoint Center of Excellence and Business Services Training & Communications invite Purdue staff and faculty to fill out a brief survey regarding their SharePoint needs.
Purdue employees are asked to set out old phone directories on Friday (Jan. 24) for recycling. Crews will collect the directories Saturday (Jan. 25).
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 Eleanor O. Kaplan Award for Exceptional Customer Service. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 3.

Nadia Brown and Shannon McMullen have been named 2014 faculty scholars for the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence.
Candace Croney, associate professor of animal sciences, will lead the newly created Purdue University Center for Animal Welfare Science.

The Center for Instructional Excellence is seeking student proposals for its second annual Academic Community Engagement Poster Presentation in April.
The Military Family Research Institute at Purdue and its partners will host a series of one-day Star Behavioral Health Provider training sessions to introduce behavioral health providers to military culture and the effect of deployments on families.
