Purdue Ag’s Fish Fry features more time with exhibitors

January 21, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Agricultural Alumni Association Fish Fry on Feb. 1 will feature an extended showcase of exhibits from the College of Agriculture and others before and after the annual gala.

The Fish Fry will be held at the Marsh Blue Ribbon Pavilion on the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Doors will open at 10 a.m., allowing early arrivals to connect with event sponsors, faculty, staff and representatives of student organizations in the exhibits area before the 11:30 a.m. start. "Purdue Agriculture Avenue" also will highlight several research programs of the college.

"In response to people wanting more time to visit, we've created this networking opportunity," said Danica Kirkpatrick, engagement program manager for the college. "The Fish Fry is very much like a homecoming for Indiana agriculture, and we want people to get the most out of their visit."

Exhibitors also will be available immediately after the Fish Fry.

Among exhibits will be a one-quarter scale tractor and the Basic Utility Vehicle, developed by the agricultural and biological engineering department for use in rugged terrain in Africa, and exhibits featuring the Purdue chapters of FarmHouse and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternities.

Featured speaker during the Fish Fry program is Don Thompson, president and CEO of McDonald's Corp. A Purdue alumnus and Board of Trustees member, Thompson will speak about the path he took from being a Purdue engineering graduate to his current position in leading the world's largest food service company, which employs 1.8 million people worldwide.

Thompson also will share a view into "the McDonald's you may not know," focusing on how the company maintains the quality of the food it serves to 69 million customers in 119 countries daily.

Tickets are $25 each, and tables of 10 cost $250. Bus transportation will be available from West Lafayette, and advance parking permits for the fairgrounds are also for sale. Tickets can be ordered by phone at 765-494-8593 or by downloading the order form at https://ag.purdue.edu/agalumni/Fish%20Fry/2014Ticket%20Order%20Form%20-Web.pdf
