Team led by Purdue professor first to record key event that breaks continents apart

Researchers place GPS instrument
Researchers have captured for the first time a geological event considered key in shaping the Earth's landscape. An international research team led by Eric Calais, a Purdue professor of geophysics, was able to measure ground displacements as two tectonic plates in Africa moved apart and molten rock pushed its way toward the surface during the first so-called "dyking event" ever recorded within the planet's continental crust. Purdue Theatre to present 'The Ministry of Funny Noises'

Purdue's Division of Theatre will present a 7:30 p.m. concert Saturday (Dec. 13) featuring The Ministry of Funny Noises.The concert, which is free and open to the public, will highlight Brad Garton, a Purdue alumnus and former member of the punk rock band Dow Jones and the Industrials that became an underground sensation in the area from 1979-81. Gregory Taylor also will be featured. More

Purdue jazz bands to offer swinging holiday sounds

Purdue's three jazz bands will come together at 8 p.m. Friday (Dec. 12) for the "Holiday Cheer & All That Jazz" concert, which will feature big band seasonal standards. The concert will feature the Purdue Jazz Band, American Music Repertory Ensemble and the Lab Jazz Band and will take place in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. Admission is free. More
