Scholarship established in memory of engineering student

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A scholarship in electrical and computer engineering has been started in memory of a Purdue University student who died earlier this month.

Mark and Valerie Allen have established the scholarship in memory of their son, Michael, who died in a fall at Hawkins Hall on Dec. 2.

Michael Allen, 20, of Fremont, Calif., was a junior. He was considered an outstanding student in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a thirst for learning and a passion for engineering. Friends described him as a giving person, especially willing to share his technical knowledge.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, in Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Michael Allen Scholarship in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Purdue Foundation, 402 W. Wood St., West Lafayette, IN 47907.
