World's largest particle accelerator goes live; Purdue Web site to share the action

Physicists throughout the world will enter a new era of exploration as the world's largest science experiment began Wednesday (Sept. 10), and Purdue scientists plan to bring high school students in on the action.

A Purdue team created a Web site to introduce the experiment and equipment to high school students, teachers and the general public. The site also offers an opportunity to ask questions and obtain more information from the group. More

Video helps students prepare for, react to active shooter on campus

A video designed specifically for college students that provides guidance about what to do in the event of an on-campus shooter was unveiled Thursday (Sept. 11) at Purdue. More

President Córdova joins national higher education cabinet

France A. Córdova has been selected to serve on The Chronicle of Higher Education/New York Times Higher Education Cabinet.

The cabinet, composed of nearly 60 collegiate chancellors and presidents from across the country, was created by the two publications as an avenue for identifying key issues and trends in higher education. More

(Office of Vice President  for Student Services) -- Purdue and Indiana universities both have record enrollments topping 40,000 students on their main campuses, and other schools -- both state-supported and private -- also are reporting enrollment gains possibly driven by the state's struggling economy. Corn genetics may lead to next generation of plant-based biofuels

Medical News Today, CleanTech.com, Energy Current, AOCS.com, Biofuel Review, World Wide Ag Network, Ontario Farmer, Agbios.com (College of Agriculture) -- Identifying the corn genes involved with plant cell wall generation and learning their function will help develop new, more productive sources of transportation biofuel, according to two Purdue University researchers. More

A who's who of colony collapse disorder scientists

The Daily Green In These Times, Lafayette Journal & Courier, GRIT.com (College of Agriculture) -- On July 17, Ag Secretary Shafer announced that the University of Georgia had been awarded a $4.1 million grant to study CCD.

This is a four year CAP (Coordinated Agriculture Project) grant, funded through USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES), which aims to improve the health of managed bee populations in agricultural systems. The research, according to Shafer, will address genomics, breeding, pathology, immunology and applied ecology to explain the causes behind dwindling bee populations. Researchers will work closely with the extension community and other stakeholders to develop and implement mitigation strategies for CCD and other significant problems. A Purdue University expert will play a key role in the study. More
