Discussion on childhood obesity to feature Subway's Jared Fogle

The Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering (RCHE) will host "Fighting Childhood Obesity," a panel discussion on nutrition and fitness, at 1 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 17).

Special guest for the event will be Jared Fogle, famed spokesman for Subway, who lost more than 245 pounds eating Subway sandwiches as part of his diet. After keeping his weight off for 10 years Jared is hanging up his pants and will share his new focus, the 3-point plan to fight childhood obesity.  

Panelists are:

* John Layton, assistant superintendent of the Lafayette School Corporation who has teamed with Purdue researchers for Making Physically Active Lafayette Students through Partnerships.  This 3-year, $660,000.00 grant seeks to help students meet Indiana standards for health by reducing obesity and increasing fitness.

* Barb Frazee, executive director of Purdue University Residences who oversees the Sensible Eats program which guides students toward health meal choices.  

The event wll be held at 1 p.m. in the Atrium at Hillenbrand Hall. Lunch is served in this state of the art dining facility so come early and enjoy lunch (cost $9).   No registration required.
