Purdue President Córdova joins national higher education cabinet

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University President France A. Córdova has been selected to serve on The Chronicle of Higher Education/New York Times Higher Education Cabinet.

The cabinet, composed of nearly 60 collegiate chancellors and presidents from across the country, was created by the two publications as an avenue for identifying key issues and trends in higher education.

"I am honored to have been invited to take part in this cabinet by two of the most respected media outlets in the realm of higher education," Córdova said. "I look forward to discussing the key issues facing higher learning in our world today."

Córdova will attend the first meeting of the cabinet on Monday (Sept. 15) at the New York Times' headquarters in New York City. The meeting will include discussion sessions between Chronicle and Times reporters and cabinet members. Members also will have the opportunity to attend a breakout session on one of four current topics, including:

* "Sustaining the Higher Education Financing Model" - How will you pay for your institution over the long run?

* "E-Learning and Education" - How will you educate students in the rapidly changing world?

* "Internationalization" - How will you compete globally?

* "Assessment and Accountability" - How do you prove your value, and what are the tools and resources needed to prove your value?

Four online follow-up meetings will be held by May.

Other universities represented on the cabinet include Tufts University, Syracuse University, Rutgers, Cornell University, Pennsylvania State University and the University of California system.
