To the Purdue Community:

I share with you today the final report from our Ad Hoc Panel to Evaluate Security Feedback. As you know, this panel was formed following the tragic event of Jan. 21 in which our student Andrew Boldt was killed in a classroom in the Electrical Engineering Building.

Linked below you will find a letter of executive summary from panel chair Patricia Hart, professor of Spanish, and the full report of the panel.

I want to express my sincere thanks to the members of this group, which included representatives of faculty, staff, students and parents, for their time and their careful and thoughtful assessment of the feedback received in the days and weeks following Jan. 21.

This panel was charged with organizing and assessing the feedback, identifying the best suggestions, addressing the most frequently asked questions, and providing a summary of those findings.

What we have learned and the suggestions we have received will guide us as we continue to consider the important topic of safety and security for the Purdue community.

We are fortunate that we work, study and live with individuals who care deeply and work diligently to keep this university among the safest in the country. I want to again thank every one of you and every one of our safety and security professionals for your roles in this effort.

Tomorrow morning (April 30), members of the panel will address some of the top-level findings and suggestions at a President’s Forum in the South Ballroom of Purdue Memorial Union. I wanted everyone to have the opportunity to read the report in advance of this public discussion. I invite you to join us at 8 a.m., either in person or online at www.kaltura.com/tiny/z0mgo, for that discussion.

Thank you,

Mitchell E. Daniels Jr.
President
