Shop Rates

Shop rates are used to assign labor costs to work performed by hourly employees for departmental and campus customers and are reevaluated each fiscal year. Common shop rates for FY20 are listed in the table below.

FY20 Rate Adjustments

Two changes were made regarding shop rate calculations for FY20. First, one hourly rate per functional craft has replaced a single flat rate per department. Previously, Building Services, Grounds, Operations and Maintenance, and Utilities each had a single rate for work within the respective area, regardless of the type of work that was being performed. 

Second, FY20 rates better reflect the varying costs associated with each trade, such as training and wage adjustments in order for Purdue to remain a competitive employer and promote employee retention. The shop rates do not include administrative, equipment, support services or other overhead costs.
