Leadership Competency Rating Tool Instructions

Supervisors use this QRG to fill out the Leadership Competency Rating Tool to assess the ‘Supervision’ competency for any of their employees who supervise at least one full-time staff member.

Complete the Rating Tool

  1. Open the Leadership Competency Rating Tool
  2. Enter Leader’s Name
    • Enter employee’s first and last name in cell B2. 
  3. Select Career Level
    • Select the appropriate Career Stream and Level from the dropdown in cell B3.   
    • Domains are weighted based on Levels:

Professional Effectiveness 30% 20% 
Relationship Management 50% 10% 
Business Acumen 10% 30% 
Analytical Intelligence 10% 40% 
  1. Review of BARS Guides
  2. Rate each competency
    • Select each dropdown and rate each competency. 
  3. Duplicate the sheet (if necessary)
    • Create a new tab for each supervisor in the same workbook.  Hold ‘ctrl’ and drag and drop the tab to create additional worksheets for each of your employees.
  4. Email the completed file to Amanda Carlson at wright9@purdue.edu.
  5. Record overall score
    • Enter the overall score into the ‘Supervision’ section of each employee’s Performance Review in SuccessFactors. Add relevant notes or attach file within SuccessFactors.
