Honoring Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day and Grounds Week
During the week of March 2, Purdue recognizes Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day and Grounds Week, a time to acknowledge the dedicated professionals who work behind the scenes to keep campus safe, functional and welcoming.
Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day on March 6 is an opportunity to acknowledge the broader team of maintenance professionals whose skills keep campus operations running smoothly. From building systems and equipment to infrastructure repairs and preventive maintenance, these workers help ensure that Purdue facilities remain functional, safe and comfortable for all who use them.
From leaf cleanup in the fall to snow removal in the winter, from planting seasonal flower displays to everyday lawn care, the Grounds team plays a vital role in preserving the beauty and functionality of Purdue’s campus environment. Their work often goes unseen, but its impact is felt by students, faculty, staff members and visitors who enjoy walkways, green spaces and outdoor facilities.
Grounds Week offers the campus an opportunity to reflect on the expertise and dedication required to manage nearly 15,000 trees, maintain expansive turf areas, coordinate seasonal planting and perform routine landscape care. These professionals apply technical skill, careful planning and uninterrupted effort to support the university’s mission and enhance Purdue’s physical environment.
“We thank these teams for their unwavering dedication, professionalism and pride in the work they do,” said Russ Wetli, senior director, Buildings and Grounds. “Their contributions are foundational to the student experience and daily operations of the university.”
Please take a moment this week to recognize the maintenance and grounds teams for their dedication and commitment to powering Purdue every day.
