Recognizing custodians on National Custodian Day; We Power Purdue campaign continues
Genoveva Lopez, a custodian with Building Services, has been with Purdue for 32 years. National Custodian Day is an opportunity to recognize Genoveva and other custodians for all they do for the Boilermaker community.
National Custodian Day on Thursday, Oct. 2 is an opportunity to recognize all of the hard-working custodians within Building Services.
Custodians are an integral part of the Administrative Operations organization as they provide reliable services for hundreds of campus facilities. They work around the clock to maintain a clean, healthy environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. They are also responsible for daily locking and unlocking of buildings and classrooms, snow removal around buildings, emergency response efforts for flooding and raising/lowering/replacing campus flags.
To help recognize custodians and other services workers, Administrative Operations has launched a storytelling campaign: We Power Purdue. Through video features, the campaign spotlights individuals whose work is often behind the scenes but essential to making campus run smoothly.
Check out the newest video, featuring Genoveva Lopez, a custodian with Building Services. She takes immense pride in keeping the second and third floors of Cary Quad clean and tidy, all while making the students feel welcomed. See how they make her feel equally as welcomed in her video feature. Also, be on the lookout for the next We Power Purdue feature on Joseph Tiseo, custodial crew chief.
If you have not already done so, please take a moment to thank dedicated custodians like Genoveva and Joseph in honor of National Custodian Day. Let them know how much you appreciate all they do for the Boilermaker community.
How to join in recognition
We Power Purdue is about more than sharing stories, it is about celebrating people. Students, faculty and staff can show appreciation by:
- Filling out a Kudos card to recognize someone who has made a difference.
- Submitting a Thumbs Up through Purdue Today.
- Writing a note of appreciation to a service worker in a building or department.
- Sharing words of thanks in the comments on social media posts as new stories are released.
Each of these gestures, whether big or small, helps show the impact of service workers’ efforts and reminds them how much they are valued.
