PurdueALERT tests scheduled for both West Lafayette and Indianapolis Sept. 30
Those working, attending classes and living at Purdue University in Indianapolis are encouraged to sign up for emergency text notifications.
Tests of the PurdueALERT emergency warning notification system are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 10:15 a.m. for both the West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations.
West Lafayette
As part of the test in West Lafayette, the all-hazards outdoor emergency warning sirens will be activated weather permitting. The test will help the campus community know what to listen for and what to do during a potential campus emergency. In an actual emergency, the sirens mean to immediately seek shelter in the nearest building.
The test will also include text messaging, email, X/Twitter updates, digital signs and desktop pop-up alerts. Please note that the X/Twitter handle recently changed from @purdueemergency to @PurdueALERT. The Campus Emergency Status webpage will be updated in the event of an actual emergency.
Indianapolis
In Indianapolis, the PurdueALERT test will include text messaging, email and X/Twitter updates. In an actual emergency, the Campus Emergency Status webpage will also be updated for Indianapolis.
Purdue Polytechnic Institute Locations
A test for CampusALERT will also be conducted at all Purdue Polytechnic Institute locations at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 30. The test will include an email to all campus community members.
“We are required to test our system at least once a year by the U.S. Department of Education,” said Jefferson Howells, director of Emergency Preparedness. “We like to take it one step further by conducting tests during both the fall and spring semesters. Frequent testing helps ensure that members of our campus communities will feel prepared and confident to respond in the event of an actual emergency.”
All students, faculty and staff at both locations are encouraged to sign up for emergency text message notifications. Up to three numbers may be registered.
