New West Lafayette campus transit routes and schedule set for fall semester
To provide a more adaptable service, riders will see branded buses, shuttles and vans in the Purdue Campus Transit fleet.
Services include a new, on-demand transit feature to enhance access to key campus destinations.
Purdue Administrative Operations has launched a West Lafayette on-campus transit service, including routes, schedules and an on-demand offering, for the fall semester. SP+ is providing the service, named Purdue Campus Transit, which will begin on Aug. 14.
Free for students, faculty and staff, the service is accessible through the Purdue Campus Transit mobile app. The app is available for download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Through the app, riders are able to view the fixed transit routes, track vehicles in real time, schedule an on-demand ride and more.
SP+ and Administrative Operations used feedback from the campus transit survey and meetings with Purdue Student Government and Purdue Graduate Student Government representatives conducted in the spring to inform the service offerings.
“We appreciate the collaboration from the student government representatives and the input we received from the broader campus community,” said Jessica Robertson, associate vice president of Auxiliary Services. “By working with SP+, we’re able to offer traditional, fixed loops that cover most of the West Lafayette campus, and through on-demand services we’re expanding to reach facilities and parking lots on the outskirts of campus, like the Purdue Airport, 2550 Northwestern Avenue and other locations.”
Three primary, fixed routes will run Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. while Purdue is in session.
- Ross-Ade Loop will follow Cherry Lane, John Wooden Drive, Tiller Drive, Steven Beering Drive, Tower Drive, David Ross Road, Stadium Avenue and Northwestern Avenue.
- Purdue Mall Loop includes Stadium Avenue, Northwestern Avenue, Grant Street, Mitch Daniels Boulevard and N. Martin Jischke Drive.
- Discovery Park Loop follows Mitch Daniels Boulevard, Airport Road, Trailway Boulevard, Arnold Drive, Harrison Street, Marsteller Street, Memorial Mall Drive and Oval Drive.
In addition to the fixed routes, Purdue Campus Transit offers a new feature that provides transportation to additional locations, less wait time and allows riders to request transit on an as-needed basis. The Purdue Campus Transit on-demand service is available at designated pick-up and drop-off locations Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m., with additional evening only routes. On Sunday, all stops will be available only from 4-9 p.m. Rides can be scheduled same day or up to 30 days in advance with live tracking and notifications. A complete list of pick-up and drop-off locations is available online.
Off-campus transit around Greater Lafayette will continue to be provided by CityBus with Route 41 The Connector (previously known as Route 23) remaining fare-free (no pass needed) for all connecting campus and the downtown districts. Purdue is subsidizing semester passes for students, making the student cost for each pass only $49, instead of the regular $99 rate. Beginning Aug. 18, students can download the EZfare app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, use their @purdue.edu email address to login and follow these additional steps to purchase a pass for $49. Other email addresses will not qualify for the discount.
