Purdue University Global adds graduate micro-credentials in high demand IT fields

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University Global is launching four new graduate-level micro-credentials in high demand fields of information technology.

These micro-credentials can fulfill Purdue Global programs’ elective slots, become a specialization or be added to support students’ completed degrees. They may qualify for federal financial aid and allow students to take credit-bearing courses without enrolling in a full degree program.

“These are attractive micro-credentials for undergraduate STEM students seeking additional skills at the graduate level or professionals wanting to enhance their credentials and up-skill their careers toward more in-demand fields,” said Tina Burton, associate dean of the Purdue Global School of Business and Information Technology.

Here is a snapshot of each of the four new micro-credentials:

AWS Cloud Technologies includes five courses designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career using Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) products and services. This micro-credential is designed with AWS Academy content to align with the following five cloud certifications: AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner – Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, AWS Certified Developer – Associate, AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty and AWS Certified Sysops Administrator – Associate.

Secure Software Development and Quality Assurance will teach graduates how to implement secure development best practices throughout the software development lifecycle. Topics will include secure software principles; software requirements and analysis; software design, coding, testing, deployment, operations and maintenance; and supply chain software acquisition. This five-class micro-credential will also align to the ISC2 Certified Secure Software Development Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) certification.

Cybersecurity Core Concepts is a five-course micro-credential covering cybersecurity topics such as ethical hacking, forensics, cryptography, security policies and security audits. It can either be added to other graduate degrees or taken as a stand-alone credential by students with a technical undergraduate degree. This offering will be available for enrollment beginning with the Aug. 4 term.

IT Core Concepts comprises five graduate courses covering essential IT topics like networking, databases, systems analysis, security management and information systems management. This micro-credential will add in-demand skills to other domain degrees such as business, criminal justice, health care and law. This offering also will be available for enrollment beginning with the Aug. 4 term.
