WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The seventh annual Purdue Day of Giving asks the Purdue family to meet the challenge on Wednesday (Sept. 9) and grant opportunities for the university and its students by donating to the programs, schools and causes they care most about.

The 24-hour online, social media-driven fundraising effort – which Purdue President Mitch Daniels has called “perhaps the 24 most exciting hours on the entire Purdue calendar” – was postponed from April 29 to Sept. 9 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Protect Purdue fund has been added as an option to which donors can contribute. The Protect Purdue Plan is the university’s comprehensive program for keeping the West Lafayette campus and community safe by limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Purdue Day of Giving 2020 features 70 participating units and 220 student organizations. Thirty hourly and six full-day challenges will allow donors to help their favorite participants (campus, college, school, program or student organization) climb the donation and participation leaderboards for additional bonus funds. See video on the Purdue spirit.

New this year is a special “Meet the Challenge” leaderboard, where participating units that beat their gift totals from Purdue Day of Giving 2019 will win a portion of $20,000, based on their percentage of the total increase of all units. In 2019, Purdue set the collegiate record for single-day fundraising with $41.6 million in donations. Last year’s online event marked the fifth consecutive year that Purdue has raised the most dollars for higher education in a 24-hour time span. All told, Purdue Day of Giving has raised $146.9 million since it launched in 2014.
