LOS ANGELES — As part of Law Day on May 1, Concord Law School at Purdue University Global will present the next installment of its Distinguished Speaker Webinar Series.

Hosted by Martin Pritikin, dean of Concord Law School, the webinar will feature Lynn H. Yeakel, director of the Drexel University College of Medicine’s Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership. It will begin at 3 p.m. ET.

This year’s Law Day theme is “Your Vote, Your Voice, Your Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100,” commemorating the centennial of women’s right to vote.

Yeakel holds the Betty A. Cohen Chair in Women’s Health at Drexel and is the founder and president of Vision 2020, a national initiative of the institute she leads to achieve women’s economic, political and social equality. Yeakel was a founder of Women’s Way, the first and largest women’s fundraising coalition in the nation, and served as its CEO from 1980-92, when she ran for the U.S. Senate. She drew national attention in what was called the “Year of the Woman,” winning the primary and nearly unseating the longtime incumbent. In 1994, Yeakel was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the position of Mid-Atlantic regional director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Her first book, “A Will and A Way,” published in 2010, presents insights into the key issues of women’s independence based on her own experience and lessons from history.

“Women are a majority of the population but are still sorely underrepresented in business and government,” Pritikin said. “Few have done more to try to address this disparity than Lynn Yeakel.”

In his role as dean, Pritikin is responsible for providing academic leadership for the Concord Law School programs, faculty and students while advancing the school's mission to provide an affordable and accessible education for aspiring attorneys and others seeking to learn the law. Under his leadership, Concord has won the Leading Edge Prize for Innovation in Legal Education and the ABA’s Brown Select Award for Access to Justice.

Law Day is held annually on May 1 to celebrate the role of law in society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession.
