Appointments, honors and activities

• Faculty and staff honors:

- The YWCA Greater Lafayette has announced the 2020 Salute to Women honorees. Among the 12 honorees are:

* Florence Adibu, former intercultural learning specialist within Purdue’s Center for Intercultural Learning. Adibu is also a member of the Younger Women’s Task Force of Greater Lafayette and The Collective.

* Deanna McMillan, former director of internships for Purdue’s Construction Engineering and Management program and former adjunct professor. McMillan is a role model for young women and students of color in the engineering, manufacturing or construction industries.

* Inge Dawn Maresh, member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Facility Corporation Board for the chapter house at Purdue. Maresh is the president of the Thomas Duncan Hall board of directors.

* Sharon Versyp, Purdue’s women’s basketball head coach. Versyp works to increase the representation of women in athletics and has served as chair of the Big Ten Conference women’s basketball coaches committee and works with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association national recruiting committee.

The Salute to Women has annually recognized the achievements and contributions of women in the area for 47 years. Recipients will be honored at a celebration held at 5:30 p.m. on March 3 at The Trails Banquet Facility. More information can be found online.

- Michael Jacovides, professor of philosophy, has been selected a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship recipient. The grants are given to scholars who distinguish themselves through outstanding research, writing, and investigation. The fellowship comes with a $60,000 award to support Jacovides' project, “Springs and Principles of the Universe: David Hume on Laws and Causes,” which will consist of research and writing leading to a book on the development of philosopher David Hume’s theories of laws and causation.

• Alumni honors:

- Julie Wainwright, a 1979 industrial management graduate and member of the Krannert School of Management’s Dean’s Advisory Council, recently received a Silicon Valley Visionary Award. Wainwright is the founder and CEO of The RealReal, a luxury consignment website.
