WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Participants of Tour de Walla Walla, April 19-24, will witness wine production from vine to bottle as they visit vineyards and wineries in southeast Washington.

Purdue Wine Grape Team members Bruce Bordelon, professor of viticulture; Katie Barnett, wine grape marketing Extension specialist; and Jill Blume, enology specialist, will lead the trip.

Tentatively scheduled tours include visits at Cougar Crest Winery, Reininger Winery, Browne Family Vineyards, Figgen Winery, College Cellars, Walla Walla Vintners, Zebra Cellars, Tertulia Cellars and Artifex Wine Company.

“Walla Walla is an up-and-coming destination with a wide portfolio of wines and varieties in the vineyard. It’s unique to learn about varieties and taste the wines all while sitting in Walla Walla,” Barnett said.

The Purdue Wine Grape Team is a collaboration between the Purdue University departments of Food Science and Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. and the Indiana Wine Grape Council. They serve Indiana’s vintners and growers by providing expertise on viticulture (grape growing), enology (wine making) and marketing.

“When a wide variety of wine enthusiasts gather together, we learn a lot from each other,” Barnett said. “The experiences we take from this trip can be applied to our tasting rooms and production facilities.”

Enrollment is open through March 20 at https://purdue.ag/wallawallaregistration.

The program fee is $1,400 per single room or $2,400 per double room and includes transportation, hotel accommodations, breakfast, four group lunches, two group dinners and all tours. Airfare and two evening meals are not included.
