More than 7,000 incoming students expected to participate Boiler Gold Rush
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue's West Lafayette students attending Boiler Gold Rush will move into their on-campus housing on Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 12-13), and the BGR program will follow the rest of the week.
BGR is preceded by Boiler Gold Rush International, which runs Friday (Aug. 9) through Tuesday (Aug. 13). More than 800 international students and guests are expected to participate in BGRi. The events are conducted by Orientation Programs, a section of Student Success Programs.
Residence hall contracts for returning students begin Aug. 16. The first day of classes is Aug. 19.
During move-in days, the central campus area will experience heavy traffic that may cause delays or disruptions to normal business. The most-affected areas will include U.S. 231 from Martin Jischke Drive to Airport Road; Stadium Avenue between Northwestern Avenue and McCormick Road; Martin Jischke Drive from U.S. 231 to Nimitz Drive (en route to the Discovery Parking Lot); Third Street from Russell Street to McCormick Road; and all side roads in the vicinity of residence halls.
The R Lot north of Ross-Ade Stadium, Purdue Airport lots between the Niswonger Aviation Technology Building and U.S. 231, and the Discovery Lot at Martin Jischke Drive and Harrison Street will be used by families during these days. Several areas will be posted and enforced as no parking/tow away zones.
On Tuesday, the new student induction event will take place from 4-4:45 p.m. in Mackey Arena. Before and after that period, about 14,000 students and guests will be walking from the residence hall areas to the arena, then returning to the halls and parking areas.
