2019 Hovde Award nominees sought

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Extension is accepting nominations for the 2019 Frederick L. Hovde Award of Excellence, which is given annually to a member of Purdue University's faculty or staff who has displayed outstanding educational service to rural Indiana.

Any active member of Purdue's faculty and staff, including field staff, is eligible for the award. Nominees can serve any college, school, division or unit, whether at the West Lafayette campus or a regional campus.

"Rural communities are the foundation of our state, and service to those communities is the foundation of Purdue," said Karen Plaut, chair of the Hovde Award committee and Glenn W. Sample Dean of Purdue Agriculture. "It is an honor for us each year to recognize someone who is dedicated to serving Hoosiers."

The nomination deadline is noon (EDT) on Sept. 4. Nomination packets should be sent to Rebeka Frakes via email at rhersked@purdue.edu or by fax to 765-494-7420. Additional information is available by contacting Rebeka by email.

At least one – and no more than five – one-page letters of support must accompany the nomination form. Nomination forms and guidelines are available at https://ag.purdue.edu/arge/Documents/HovdeAward/HovdeAward2019.pdf.

The recipient will receive an $800 cash prize and plaque. The award, which has been given annually since 1972, is sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. in appreciation of Hovde, who was Purdue’s seventh president and served from 1946-1971.

The 2018 recipient was Natalie Carroll, a professor in the departments of agricultural science education and communication and agricultural and biological engineering.
