Steve Wozniak on ‘What IF We Lose Control of Technology?’

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Apple co-founder and computer pioneer Steve Wozniak will speak at Purdue University on April 17.

The talk is 6-7 p.m. at Elliott Hall of Music. The event is free and open to the public, but a ticket is required. Tickets are available online or at the Stewart Center box office starting Tuesday (April 2). Doors will open at 5 p.m. for general admission seating and a security check. No backpacks are allowed, and any smaller bags or purses will need to be searched.

The event is a part of Purdue’s Ideas Festival, the centerpiece of Purdue’s Giant Leaps Sesquicentennial Campaign, which is a series of events that connect world-renowned speakers and Purdue expertise in a conversation on the most critical problems facing the world. One of the Ideas Festival’s themes is “Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms and Automation.”

Widely recognized as a pioneer of the personal computer revolution, the Apple co-founder is an inventor, engineer, programmer, philanthropist and technology entrepreneur. He co-founded Apple Inc. with Steve Jobs, which launched the personal computer revolution.

Wozniak will join Mung Chiang, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering, for a wide-ranging discussion on the founding of Apple and on artificial intelligence and his personal vision for the future of technology.

“Purdue Engineering is excited to welcome Steve Wozniak,” Chiang said. “We can’t wait to have a conversation with the Apple co-founder who engineered the computer revolution on the future of computing. From AI to autonomy, and from privacy to education, our campus and neighbors will hear what the legendary Woz thinks about these critical topics.”
