Krannert receives STEM designation for MBA specialization areas

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management will begin offering a STEM-designated Master of Business Administration degree option this fall for students in four specialization areas: business analytics and information management, finance, global supply chain management or marketing.

The STEM-designated MBA will offer an immersive set of quantitative classes grounded in statistics, computer applications and data analysis, along with core business classes that will develop students’ analytical and problem-solving skills. In addition, the 60-credit-hour, four-semester program will enhance leadership skills, preparing students to manage teams in a technology-driven world.

The designation will be especially valuable to international students. STEM – or science, technology, engineering and math – designation will give graduates the opportunity of three years of Optional Practical Training, making them eligible to stay in the United States for three years provided they work in a STEM-oriented position. Students earning other types of degrees typically only qualify for one-year visas. Domestic students also may benefit from the degree, making them more competitive in the job market.

“We believe this new degree option will be a perfect fit at Purdue, which is renowned for its excellence in STEM-related fields,” said Greg Beaver, executive director of Krannert’s MBA, Master of Science and doctorate programs. “The four concentration areas give students the chance to personalize their degree by taking courses that are aligned with their career aspirations. They also will be able to gain valuable practical experience through collaborative opportunities with the Purdue Foundry, Discovery Park and other campus incubators and innovation centers.”
