Free networking conference for biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical research fields planned at Purdue Research Park

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Akina Inc., a life sciences research company located in the Purdue Research Park, is planning a free scientific networking symposium in August.

The Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals, Cancer and Research (BPCR) Conference will include presentations on scientific research, scientific posters, as well as presentations by businesses that supply researchers.

“The idea of the symposium is to bring people from the scientific community together to make the connections that enable businesses to grow,” said John Garner, Akina’s general manager.

Garner said the connection could be an investor, a key consultant or a company that can supply a needed component or provide access to an expensive piece of equipment.

“Those kinds of connections have a great deal of value in the scientific industry,” Garner said.

About 80 people attended the inaugural conference last year. Akina officials anticipate that attendance will reach more than 100 this year.

The conference will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Kurz Purdue Technology Center, 1281 Win Hentschel Blvd., West Lafayette. Those interested can register as an attendee, an exhibitor or a presenter at http://www.bpcrconference.com. Those wishing to make scientific presentations or enter a scientific poster must submit abstracts (50-word maximum).

Registration isn’t required to attend, but those who preregister will attend a lunch at no cost. The event is open to the public.

Garner said Akina is sponsoring the event with the goal of enhancing collaborations among Purdue Research Park businesses, researchers and startups, as well as others in the area. Garner said being located in the Purdue Research Park helps because of support services supplied by the Purdue Research Foundation.

Akina provides research products and services that assist in controlled releases, medicinal-delivery and biomedical applications.

BPCR Conference Summary

The BPCR Conference will be a free scientific networking symposium for Greater Lafayette-based businesses, research companies and startups that want to network with potential customers, investors and partners. The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Kurz Purdue Technology Center.
