Division of Financial Aid reminds families to file a FAFSA
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - To receive priority consideration for federal, state and university-based financial aid, all current and prospective students planning to attend Purdue University West Lafayette in the fall of 2019 may file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as Monday (Oct 1, 2018), but no later than Purdue’s priority filing date of March 1, 2019.
“The 2019-20 FAFSA will use 2017 tax data,” said David Reseigh, assistant director of outreach services at Purdue's Division of Financial Aid. “Most students and families can use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) any time after Oct. 1 to complete the FAFSA with their already-completed 2017 IRS tax return information.”
Before starting the FAFSA process, each student and a parent should create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) by going to https://fsaid.ed.gov. Then file the 2019-20 FAFSA on the redesigned and more mobile device friendly website at https://fafsa.gov/.
Indiana families can get free FAFSA filing help from financial aid experts at one of two College Goal Sunday events on either Oct. 28, 2018, or Feb 24, 2019, starting at 2 p.m. local time. Families can view a complete list of the participating sites around Indiana and obtain additional event information at www.collegegoalsunday.org/.
New-to-Purdue families should use the Net Price Calculator at www.purdue.edu/dfa/cost/estimator.html to receive a financial aid package estimate that includes an estimated “net price” (estimated costs less anticipated need-based scholarship and grant aid).
The Division of Financial Aid provides financial aid information to students and families through community outreach, via email, and online at www.purdue.edu/dfa. The Division of Financial Aid can be reached by calling 765-494-5050 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, or by emailing facontact@purdue.edu.
