WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Alfredo Rodriguez Trio will perform at Purdue University in Stewart Center’s Loeb Playhouse on Sept. 28.

This performance is presented by Purdue Convocations with support from the Piano Giving Circle. A pre-show meetup will occur at 7 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union’s 1869 Tap Room.

Cuban hero José Martí commemorated the Statue of Liberty’s dedication with the words, “A grain of poetry suffices to season a century.” That ideology lives on in the musical freedom of Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Alfredo Rodríguez. Rodríguez’s latest album, “The Little Dream,” was inspired by Martí’s work and reflects Rodríguez’s own journey — from humble Cuban beginnings to mentorship from the inimitable Quincy Jones and immigration to the United States. Backed by longtime colleagues Michael Olivera (drums) and Munir Hossn (bass/guitar), Rodríguez embraces a global panoply of sound spanning African Highlife influences to Middle Eastern flourishes.

Tickets are $26 for adults and $20 for children 18 years and younger, Purdue students and Ivy Tech Lafayette students. Tickets are available at the Stewart Center box office at 765-494-3933 or 800-914-SHOW. Group tickets are also available to groups of 10 more.
