WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue’s College of Education is reaching out to potential students with a new online master’s degree program.

The new online Master of Science in Education program is part of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, said Janet Alsup, department head and professor.

The program is scheduled to begin with the fall semester 2018.

Alsup said the new program will deepen educators’ knowledge of current educational trends, research, instructional approaches, and policies. They will develop their understanding of diversity of schools and communities to help them advocate for inclusivity and social justice.

“Whether you are a K-12 teacher or administrator, an educator working in a nontraditional setting such as a nonprofit or community group or someone who works in educational testing or publishing, our program will be professionally transformative,” Alsup said.

She added graduates will learn to create successful learning opportunities for students.

The online master’s degree program offers four concentrations:

  • English Language Learners for teachers of students learning English as an additional language.
  • Gifted, Creative, and Talented Studies serving teachers of gifted, creative and talented students.
  • Mathematics Education for broader knowledge and practice in teaching and learning mathematics.
  • Educational Technology for integrating technology into curriculum and the classroom.

A fifth concentration in K-12 Integrated STEM will be added in fall of 2019.

The new online program allows students to learn without relocating or dedicating time to a commute. The opportunity means students attend class when and where it’s most convenient.

The College of Education’s online graduate programs are ranked in the top 13 percent nationwide and the courses are developed by current faculty at the West Lafayette campus.
