Purdue to host civil engineering symposium on infrastructure

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue will host the 13th annual Inter-University Symposium on Infrastructure Management (AISIM) at multiple campus locations Friday (June 23).

AISIM is an all-day event featuring information exchange and networking opportunities primarily for graduate students. The symposium often includes researchers and practitioners including infrastructure agencies, consultants and other stakeholders.

Purdue was selected to host this year’s event in recognition of the university’s strong reputation worldwide in the areas of infrastructure management, research and technology transfer. Purdue Lyles School of Civil Engineering graduate students Seyedali Ghahari and Tariq Saeed Usman are serving as the event’s co-chairs.

“We are incredibly excited to be the host campus for this year’s AISIM,” Ghahari said. “The symposium is recognized worldwide as an event that can improve and shape a grad student’s career. We are very much looking forward to sharing our research and learning from some of the best minds in engineering.”

The theme for this year’s symposium is “State of Infrastructure Management: Challenges, Sustainability and Innovation.” It underscores the current conditions of the aging infrastructure in the United States with respect to what is being done to ensure efficient use of resources in development, operation, maintenance and management.

Kumares Sinha, the Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering, will deliver the keynote speech.
