Purdue Engineering, Education online programs earn high rankings

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University online graduate programs in the colleges of Engineering and Education received accolades in the newest U.S. News & World Report rankings issued Tuesday (Jan. 10).

The report listed the College of Engineering online master’s degree programs as fifth nationally among the 94 colleges and universities listed. The college maintains the rank it received in 2016.

The College of Education was ranked 35th among the 278 colleges and universities listed by U.S. News. The ranking is a jump from the college’s No. 41 spot last year.

Deans for both colleges appreciated the honor the programs received from the rankings.

“I am pleased the work of our faculty and staff who deliver these high-quality online master’s degree programs has been recognized,” said Maryann Santos, dean of the College of Education. “Enrollment in our online programs is growing rapidly because we deliver the same rigorous curriculum to our online students that our students on campus receive.”

Leah Jamieson, dean of the College of Engineering, said, “We are proud of the success of Engineering Professional Education, and the College of Engineering faculty, in making Purdue graduate engineering degrees available to online students.”

U.S. News and World Report examined each program in five categories: student engagement, faculty credentials and training, peer reputation, student services and technology, and admissions selectivity.

The categories were weighted differently depending on the online program’s study focus. Rankings were determined using questionnaires sent to public, private and for-profit institutions that granted master’s degrees in specific programs.

Additional statistical information then was collected from those institutions with online programs. Separate surveys were conducted to establish statistics on peer reputation.
