Award-winning columnist, gay rights advocate will give lecture

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — An award-winning columnist who is an advocate for gay marriage and gay rights will present a lecture at Purdue University.

Jonathan Rauch, a senior fellow with the Brookings Institution, will present a lecture titled, “Why free speech is the only safe space for minorities,” at 6:30 p.m. April 6 in Room 172 of the Heine Pharmacy Building. A Q-and-A session will occur after the lecture, which is free and open to the public.

Rauch is the author of six books and numerous articles on public policy, culture and government. He is a contributing editor to The Atlantic magazine and won the 2005 National Magazine Award.

A majority of his writing is about public policy, but Rauch has delved into a myriad of topics including adultery, agriculture, economics, height discrimination and animal rights, among others.

Rauch’s lecture is sponsored by Purdue Graduate Student Government with support from the Institute for Humane Studies and the John Templeton Foundation.
