Appointments, honors and activities
• Faculty and staff honors:
- Dave Ebert, the Silicon Valley Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the recipient of the 2016 Visualization Technical Achievement Award in recognition of his work in visual analytics, both through development of fundamental predictive techniques and as director of the Purdue/DHS Visual Analytics Center of Excellence. Over the past 10 years, Ebert has led a network of universities to deploy software that is used to make sense of complex data, make effective decisions and take action. Ebert has been at Purdue since 2001. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Visual and Technical Graphics Committee established the Visualization Technical Achievement Award in 2004.
- The Online Learning Consortium will recognize Jennifer Richardson, associate professor of learning design and technology in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, as one of the 2016 OLC fellows. She will be recognized during a ceremony next month in Orlando. OLC fellows have contributed to advancing quality, scale and breadth in online and blended education in areas represented by the OLC pillars of learning effectiveness, access, faculty and student satisfaction and scale. The OLC is a professional organization devoted to advancing the quality of online learning worldwide.
- Former head women's swimming coach Cathy Wright-Eger was recently inducted into the Jefferson High School Alumni Hall of Fame in Lafayette, Indiana. Wright-Eger graduated from Jefferson in 1978 and received her bachelor's degree at Ball State University. She started her teaching career at Jefferson and later served as head women's swimming coach at Purdue for 21 years. Wright-Eger is a leadership adviser in Intercollegiate Athletics, and created the John R. Wooden Leadership Institute. The institute helps student-athletes develop and grow into leaders, on the field as well as the classroom.
