The continental lithosphere and forces behind earthquakes

Lucy Flesch, Purdue University associate professor in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, can talk about earthquakes and seismic activity, particularly about the collision of tectonic plates and the resulting stress below the surface that can result in earthquakes. She used GPS measurements of ground movement and seismic data to study the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates for 20 years and authored a number of papers on her research and the forces responsible for earthquakes in the Himalayan Mountains and Tibetan Plateau region.
