WIEP open house offers children a glimpse of engineering

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —Children of all ages can pursue their interest in engineering through a Purdue University weekend event.

Innovation, Imagination, Discovery and Design (I2D2) will offer an open house beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 27) in the atrium of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. I2D2 is an outreach program of Purdue's Women in Engineering.

Families with children in kindergarten through eighth grade can attend the event, which offers hands-on engineering activities at various stations for the children in a relaxed learning environment.

In addition, families will have the chance to participate in an hourlong activity — once at 11 a.m. and repeated at noon. Students from Women in Engineering will help with the activity, which explores engineering concepts.

The event is free, and no pre-registration is necessary. Children must be under parental supervision during the open house.

The open house is the second of two hosted each academic year by I2D2, which works to introduce young students in the community to engineering through hands-on activities brought to schools by Purdue engineering students.

The event is sponsored by Motorola Solutions Foundation.
