Christopher Lukasik, associate professor of English and American Studies, was awarded a $6,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The award will support writing and researching his new book project "The Image in the Text: Intermediality, Illustration, and Nineteenth-Century American Literature." Lukasik's project examines the growth of illustration within American literary culture from 1825 to 1875. Lukasik has presented over 70 papers on three continents and his work has been published in over a dozen journals. He is the author of "Discerning Characters: The Culture of Appearance in Early America." This year the NEH received over 800 applications and only 10 percent were funded.
