Indiana 211 service available to residents at no cost, offers variety of resources to help

Indiana 211 is a free service that’s available 24/7/365 and connects Indiana residents with help and answers from thousands of health and human service agencies and resources right in their local communities — quickly, easily and confidentially.

The tools and resources offered via Indiana 211 are available for a variety of things, many of which could play a part in an individual’s mental health either by helping reduce stress regarding a situation or finding mental health care assistance if needed. 

Indiana 211 offers resources to assist individuals with many needs, such as:

  • Child care
  • Clothing/personal/household items
  • Disaster services
  • Domestic violence
  • Food/meals
  • Health care
  • Housing
  • Income support/assistance
  • Individual/family and community support
  • Job readiness
  • Legal/consumer and public safety concerns
  • Libraries
  • Mental health/substance use disorders
  • Sexual assault
  • Tax assistance
  • Trafficking
  • Transportation
  • Utility assistance

There are no eligibility requirements, income standards nor any other rules; anyone can utilize the resources offered. There are three easy ways to access Indiana 211: 

  • Dial 2-1-1 or call 866-211-9966
  • Text your ZIP code to 898-211
  • Visit org — individuals can search by ZIP code and/or service or search by topics already listed on the webpage

Those who reach out to use this service will find that Indiana 211 has many perks, including:

  • Acting as a warm handover for some resources
  • Interpreting for more than 240 languages
  • Serving all residents in all 92 Indiana counties
  • Treating all calls as uniquely as each caller

Note: A caller does not need to be in crisis to call 2-1-1 or reach out via text or website.

Those who would like to suggest a resource to be included in the Indiana 211 Resource Database can email IN211Database@FSSA.in.gov or call 888-211-2402 to make a recommendation.

To assist faculty and staff

Faculty and staff can review the Mental Health Resources webpage for a variety of available resources, which also support the behavioral health pillar of the Healthy Boiler Program, and information on Purdue’s health plan coverage for mental health and substance abuse.  

To assist students

Faculty and staff who work with students or have a student at home can direct them to the resources below for behavioral health assistance. Note: United Healthcare Student Resources (UHCSR) — medical plan provider for students and graduate students — offers 292 unique mental health providers serving at various locations that are in-network with UHCSR within Tippecanoe County. The list is available here. Additionally, students have access to HealthiestYou, which provides virtual access to mental health care as part of UHCSR’s plan. All services are free for students covered under the UHCSR insurance plan.
