Pat Carducci will become chair of the Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee on Sept. 9.

Carducci, a custodian in Building Services at the Dick and Sandy Dauch Alumni Center, represents District III – Areas reporting to the Vice President for Physical Facilities.

Question: How long, and in what positions, have you worked at Purdue?

Answer: I have been at Purdue for almost five years. I began my Purdue career as a service worker in the Purdue Memorial Union. In the time I worked there, I enjoyed my interactions with the students and the bustling atmosphere. When I had an opportunity to move to Dauch, however, I was pleased to be able to move to such a great building that is full of Purdue spirit and pride. Prior to coming to the University, I worked for the U.S. Post Office as a temporary worker, when I relocated to Lafayette from my hometown in Ohio.

Q. Why did you decide to become in involved in CSSAC?

A. I was approached by my former supervisor to become involved. She thought I would be able to represent my co-workers at PMU well. When I found out more about CSSAC, I thought it would be a good way to learn more about the University and be part of a positive movement at the University.

Q. Why did you want to become chair of CSSAC?

A. To become more involved than just a member. I wanted an inside view on how the University structure works.

Q. What do you hope CSSAC does during the upcoming program year?

A. I would like to continue to make clerical and service staff aware of CSSAC and be a part of the changes in the leave policy to make sure clerical and support staff are heard in the process.

Q. How do you think CSSAC has benefited staff and Purdue over the years?

A. CSSAC has been part of the conversation and enabled the University to offer things that have added value, such as trips and discounts, and has been a voice on key University committees for clerical and service employees. This has benefited the University by building employee morale and loyalty.

Q. What do you think CSSAC has been CSSAC's biggest accomplishment, particularly in the last few years?

A. I feel CSSAC has focused on providing professional development opportunities for clerical and service staff, and making grant and scholarship funds available to help people advance.
