Purdue Alumni Association Board Chairman Gail Larson (S'02) has named Jim Karl (MSE'81) interim president and CEO of Purdue Alumni. This appointment was effective April 13.
"Jim is highly qualified to handle this important role given his past business and management experiences and knowledge of the Purdue Alumni Association and the Purdue community," Larson says.
As interim president and CEO, Karl will oversee all engagement, communication, membership, marketing and sales, and data management activities for the association.
"Since 2011, I have been in the role of executive vice president of the alumni association, overseeing the internal operations of the organization. I am now honored to be serving you as interim president and CEO," Karl says. "I am looking forward to working with the staff of the Purdue Alumni Association and the board of directors to keep the association aggressively moving forward during this transition of leadership."
Immediately following graduation from Purdue, Karl joined IBM at its facility in Essex Junction, Vermont, and continued to work out of that location until his retirement in June 2011. He also earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Vermont in 1986.
Throughout his professional career, Karl maintained an active relationship with Purdue and the Purdue Alumni Association. As a recruiter for IBM, he routinely returned to campus to speak to students about the engineering profession. Karl served as a director for the Purdue Alumni Board, including a six-year term as an officer for the board of directors, serving as chairman of the board from 2007 to 2009.
Karl and his wife, Barb, reside in West Lafayette. They are life members of the Purdue Alumni Association and members of the President's Council and John Purdue Club. Their daughter, Christina (ChE'13), is a Purdue graduate.
