Ismail Center to offer summer exercise program for cancer survivors

June 4, 2015

Purdue's A.H. Ismail Center in partnership with the Lafayette YWCA is offering a cancer survivor exercise program.

The 12-week Cancer Wellness Program is a group-based physical activity program that will emphasize instruction in cardiorespiratory fitness, strength and flexibility training. The 60-minute classes will meet from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning June 15 at the center’s Adult Fitness Studio in Lyles-Porter Hall.

The program is open to the Purdue and Greater Lafayette communities for a fee of $50. Parking in the Harrison Street Garage or street parking is available, and no parking permit needed after 5 p.m.

A health history questionnaire and medical clearance will be required for all participants, and a pre- and post-physical assessment will be offered in the first and last week of the summer session. As part of the program, the Department of Health and Kinesiology will be conducting an ongoing assessment looking at changes in psychosocial well-being of the target population based on participation in a group-based physical activity program. The assessment is voluntary and will require informed consent for participation in the study.

For more information, call the center at 49-61015. To register, call 742-0075.
