Campus Fit Club: Team up, lose weight this summer

May 5, 2015

Registration is open for the Division of Recreational Sports' summer Campus Fit Club. Participants will form their own teams to have fun and support while pursuing personalized weight and fitness programs June 8-July 24.

During those seven weeks, teams of three to six members will share in Campus Fit Club activities at the Córdova Recreational Sports Center. Each team will have:

* 12 group personal training sessions.
* A fitness assessment to start the program.
* Weekly educational and motivational updates.
* Biweekly brown bag wellness workshops.
* A Fit Club "punch card" to track progress.
* Constant support from trainers and teammates.

During the first session, each participant will undergo the fitness assessment. Based on these assessments, personal trainers will create a customized program and set goals for each participant, bearing in mind whether the participant is new to such programs, participating to support a friend, or something else. The trainers also will use these assessments to develop team activities for future sessions.

The program is modeled after popular TV shows such as "Celebrity Fit Club" and "The Biggest Loser." During the program, points will be awarded for healthy weight loss as well as for participation in a variety of physical activity and educational opportunities outside the training sessions. Based on those points, a winning team and individual will be named.

The program is open to faculty and staff with a DRS membership, as well as Purdue grad staff. Memberships are available by month or pay period.

Registration is open through May 29. The cost is $102 per person. To register, go here and select the Small Group Training packet. Print it, fill it out and submit it according to the instructions it provides. In the packet, you will provide the names of the other members in your group. When all members have submitted packets, each will receive a welcome email and the name of the trainer matched with the group based on scheduling availability.
