Purdue celebrated the opening of its new Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center with a ceremony on Wednesday (April 29) at Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse.
The celebration included remarks by Purdue Provost Debasish "Deba" Dutta and G. Christine Taylor, vice provost for diversity and inclusion. Tsukasa Taiko, a Japanese drumming performance group from Chicago, also was part of the celebration. Drummers and dancers gave a featured performance to close out the program.
A reception followed the ceremony, and attendees also had the opportunity to visit the center, Room 162 in Stewart.
Taylor said AAARCC will support Purdue Asian American and Asian students and provide education and awareness opportunities for the entire campus community.
"The opening of this center aligns with the growing Asian and Asian American population to respond to the support and educational needs of the campus," Taylor said.
