Third annual Blue Jean Ball set for April 25

March 23, 2015

The College of Agriculture once again is a partner in the Blue Jean Ball fundraiser for Food Finders Food Bank. The third annual event will be on April 25 at Beck Agricultural Center on the grounds of the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education, 4540 U.S. 52 West, West Lafayette.

The Blue Jean Ball, with co-partner Bison Financial Group in Lafayette, is the signature event solely benefiting the food bank. The event raises operating funds needed to continue Food Finders' mission of alleviating hunger.

Tom Turpin, professor of entomology and creator of the Bug Bowl, will be the host of this year's ball, which will include a barbecue pork dinner by Shoup's Country Foods. Jim VanSchepen will host the ball's silent and live auctions, and guests will dance to music provided by the Rat Pak Mobile DJs.

Individual and full-table tickets are available. Specially priced "early bird" tickets are available at last year's prices through March 31.

The first two Blue Jean Balls combined raised nearly $75,000 in proceeds. Food Finders used part of the 2014 proceeds to help grow its existing direct-service programs.

"This event continues to grow and amaze me," says Katy Bunder, Food Finders' executive director.

Food Finders last year distributed more than 7 million pounds of food to nearly 86,000 people through a network of at least 160 nonprofit and religious organizations in 16 counties.
